Who is a M.A.P. Tour Guide?

  1. Someone who desires to share his/her faith and relationship with Jesus Christ through leading other students in a week of service to others.
  2. Someone who exhibits strong leadership skills.
  3. Someone who leads his or her peers by exemplifying servant leadership.
  4. A Senior High Student who is currently in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade.

 

What is the job of a M.A.P. Tour Guide?

  1. Attend Training Sessions and Roof Training Weekend as well as complete other additional requirements prior to the week of M.A.P.
  2. Work closely with the M.A.P. director, M.A.P. staff, student volunteers, and adult volunteers to ensure the proper planning and completion of M.A.P.
  3. Prepare and lead your group in prayer and devotion each day and discussion each evening.
  4. Provide leadership on the worksite by making sure all youth have jobs, stay on task, and live in a Christian community together.
  5. Assist the M.A.P. Staff and other adults as needed with miscellaneous M.A.P. duties (worship, clean-up, small groups, skits, and lights out).
  6. Attend the Tour Guide Meeting each evening to share concerns and joys, offer support for one another, give guidance to and receive guidance from your peers, etc.
  7. Prepare your group for roofing each day by making sure everyone is appropriately dressed and has the necessary safety gear as well as organizing your group to gather all needed materials for the work site.
  8. Pray for and spend individual time with each group member.

 

 

TRAINING SESSIONS

A total of 5 training sessions will be offered throughout the Fall and Spring.  Each session will cover a different leadership topic as well as focusing on specific aspects of roofing that the amateur roofer may not be so good at, such as how to shingle a roof with vents.  The sessions will be held at Northside UMC each month on Sunday mornings beginning at 11:00am and ending at 2:30pm.  We will worship together at Student REMIX Worship in the Fellowship Hall at NUMC.  After worship, M.A.P. will provide lunch for Tour Guides, followed by a session of leadership training and a session of roofing training.

 

Requirements

1. To be considered as a Tour Guide, you must attend at least 3 of the 4 training sessions.
The dates for the 4 sessions offered Sunday mornings from 11:00am - 2:30pm are:
1. October 25
2. November 8
3. January 10
4. February 28

ROOF TRAINING WEEKEND – MARCH 19-21

Tour Guides must attend the Roof Training Weekend for at least six hours of roofing (more than 6 hours is strongly encouraged).  We will work daily from 9:00am to 6:00pm.  Lunch will be provided.  If this weekend is rained out, the weekend will be moved to March 26-28.

           

CPR & FIRST AID TRAINING – APRIL 17

Tour Guides must be CPR certified.  If you are not, there will be a CPR and First Aid Training session will be held on Saturday, April 17 at NUMC.

 

SUMMER SERVICE

In addition, you must complete 6 hours of service in the summer months (June 1-July 8) by visiting the home on which you will be working and by helping M.A.P. interns prepare for the week of M.A.P. 
Tour Guide Applications are due by January 11, 2010.  You must also register for M.A.P. prior to that date.  Tour Guides will be selected and notified by March 5.  Note that Tour Guide selection occurs after you have attended at least 3 of the first 4 training sessions.
